This is an audiovisual narrative about design...! That feels like a trick, but each of the audio clips was selected because I felt they particularly resonated in the context of this class. The audio clips themselves are from casual/unplanned conversations between myself and some of my friends. The subject matter touches on things I've been thinking about a lot over the last few weeks: what it means to be close to something, what it means to make a "game", and having fun vs. reaching for the sublime.

I talked to Ge last week about feeling like everything I added to my project made it worse... that did continue for an unfortunate amount of time thereafter. I made another entirely different scene before deciding not to use it, created and removed a first-person player made entirely out of particles, spent a long time trying to figure out VFX shaders for grass. Compared to my previous projects, I think I had the hardest time with this one... but I also feel like it comes the closest to the feeling I've been trying to convey. Eventually, I did actually feel like I hit my stride after getting some text on the screen. Where my previous designs in my milestones had more of a toy-like feel, where you play with different sliders to see different effects, I feel like my final design feels much more embodied.

I had several other audio clips that I still wanted to include, but didn't due to time constraints. Imagine it as a slice of something bigger 🔮
